You may not have been aware of this, but Lego Star Wars also has two online games that you can play for free as a promotion for the actual game. Ace Assault pits you up against your favorite bounty hunters as you try to destroy their ship in this Asteroids like adventure. The other, the Quest for R2-D2, takes you on a quest through various missions to find the elusive droid that is calling for help while carrying the plans to a new weapon.
Ace Assault allows you to first pick and customize your pilot. You can give your guy a name, a chosen helmet, weapon, pants and shirt. There are a lot of different options. The face ones, for example, give you different expressions. Once you’ve chosen what your character looks like, you’ll be given a chance to choose a ship. Each ship has different strengths that will effect how you do against your foes. Some ships are locked until you reach certain goals, presumably getting through the three rounds of combat presented to you. When you have decided what vessel you’ll take into battle, you are shown which opponents you’ll go up against and then you get to play. As I said before, basically this is fancy version of Asteroids with a sort of 3D element built in. The controls take a bit of getting used to, in trying to use the obstacles to your favor.
The Quest for R2-D2 is a far more complicated game, requiring you to sign up to the site and log in, as saving your progress will be a must in the game. You are presented with various missions that you must undertake in order to reach the final goal of getting to R2-D2. Once you choose whether to play as Anakin (Jedi) or Asajj Ventress (Sith), you are then taken to a screen where you can buy talents, but you’ll have no money initially. You then go to the projector which will show the various missions. You pick one of the available ones and are told what you need to accomplish. For Mission 1, it’s to deactivate the sensor array. This is code for picking up diamonds in a 3D environment as you ward off the enemy with your light saber or your force powers. If you get hurt, you can revamp your health by stepping into something that looks like one of those Borg things out of Star Trek. Don’t forget to try and destroy consoles and stuff to get rubies too. The more you find, the more you earn and will be able to spend for better talents. The game requires you to get the Unity Player which only takes a few seconds to download before playing. Once you’ve got it, you do not need to download it again.
These fun diversions from Lego and 4T2 Multimedia have been very successful, with Ace Assault alone grabbing over 10 million plays, and people coming back to play more of that and Quest over and over. In fact, they are so enthused by its success, that the company plans to let 4T2 continue to make the games better, adding levels and ships to keep players interested for a long time to come. You can play these by clicking here[/a]. There are also other fun things to do on Lego’s site, so it’s worth checking out
