Star Wars at San Diego Comic Con International Part 1

San Diego Comic-Con International is one of the biggest comic book, and now pop culture events in the country. It’s where movie companies, comic book publishers, authors, artists, game developers, and even toy manufacturers, not to mention fans come together, 130,000 in all for the four day event. And Star Wars is right in the middle of it, with actually a lot of different events going on despite not having much in the way of new content except for Clone Wars’ new season coming soon.

Thursday:
10:00am – 11:00am Star Wars Kinect
The title that has been much awaited for the Xbox 360 and Kinect controller will have a panel in which participants will get to hear from lead producer Craig Derrick from LucasArts and studio head Jorg Nuemann from Kinect Publishing. Participants will get a free poster for attending.

3:30pm – 4:30pm Star Wars: The Old Republic
We’ve talked about the new massive multiplayer online world before here and Bioware will be on hand, along with LucasArts to show it off to the public in advance of its release later this year (we hope). The panel promises exclusive reveals (which we hope means an official release date), guests and giveaways.

4:45 – 5:45pm The Clone Wars Season 4 Preview
Get to see what is coming up in the next season of the popular animated series on the Cartoon Network with director Dave Filoni as well as special effects wizard Joel Aron. The panel also hints at others from the studio who will be providing commentary.

5:00pm – 6:00pm The Golden Age of Blu-Ray
While not a Star Wars specific panel, the session talks about how Star Wars as well as other movies is providing Blu-Ray with the highest quality at this point and explores whether this could be the ultimate time for the DVD format.

5:00pm – 6:00pm Batman: Arkham City
Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) will be appearing. He plays the voice of the Joker in the video game.

6:00pm – 7:00pm Her Universe: What Women Want In Their Female Sci-Fi Heroes
Ashley Eckstein (who plays Ahsoka Tano in Clone Wars) is hosting this panel discussion to bring to light what females want to see in their role models in the sci-fi world. Often in a male dominated world, we often lose sight of the fact that women watch too and she wants to let fans and producers know that women have a different view on what makes a cool character. Also appearing will be Clone Wars director Dave Filoni.

8:30pm – 11:00pm Star Wars Fan Movie Awards
We all know that fans have created some amazing fan films out there and here is where they go to compete. Submissions are screened by George Lucas himself, who picks a winner at this 10th annual event. Winners will get a trophy and the admiration of all.

And that’s pretty much all the Star Wars related stuff at San Diego Comic-Con International. The conference runs from Thursday June 21st – Sunday June 24th at the San Diego Convention Center. We will be putting up the other days this week as they relate to Star Wars. One day or even multiday tickets may still be available by going to their website at Comic-Con as people tend to cancel at the last minute and tickets are put back up.
