Star Wars News of the Galaxy for October 6 2011

This week we have two big fans of Star Wars and their creations, a new beta test weekend from Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars: The Clone Wars returns two of our favorites.

A dedicated Star Wars fan has paid tribute to his favorite films by building an incredible reproduction of the Death Star hanger scene out of 30,000 Legos. The diorama has everything including hundreds of stormtroopers and Imperial guard and officers lined up in formation, the Emperor and Darth Vader on the carpet, the Imperial Shuttle, and the bay itself. Jay Hoff, who says he spent over $2300 in bricks and 6 months to build the 6 foot by 6 foot creation, built it for his school to celebrate the Science Discovery Day. Hoff has yet to dismantle it after it was displayed, and I’m wondering if he should. I would put it up on Ebay or something as someone would surely be glad to have it if he doesn’t want it. Legoland perhaps? He might even make a profit.

In other fan news, a father decided to try to convince his 5 year old girl that there were really Ewoks and that they lived in Sequoia National Park. He mentioned to her that they lived there because it looked like their home in the movie Return of the Jedi. And so for the weekend, during their visit to the park, she searched but didn’t find any, disappointed that she didn’t get to see them. But her father had a plan. Being a graphic designer, Anthony Herrera loaded up a paint program and added in the little creatures into their photos of the trip and printed them out, showing her that they were there, they were just shy and hiding. His daughter was thrilled. Some may claim that it was wrong to go through such extremes, but what’s wrong with a little imagination, eh?

Those that have signed up to be beta testers on Star Wars: The Old Republic need to check their inbox today and/or their spam folder to be sure they get they get to participate in the next round of beta testing which is happening this weekend (the 7th-11th of October). Bioware says that they will be taking a bigger batch from the selection list than ever before, so if you missed out on the first round, hang tight. And if not this time, there will be more such weekends from now until the release on December 20, so if your time has not yet come, there is still a chance.

In this week’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, an alien race of tiny creatures faces destruction unless they can get help in the form of Clone Commander Wolffe and his soldiers. But as the Clone Army try to ascertain how they can be of service, they run into some old friends, C-3PO and R2D2. Yes, that’s right, our favorite duo is back in the episode called Mercy Mission, which airs Friday night on Cartoon Network. C-3PO will, of course, be voiced once again by Anthony Daniels.

That’s the news we have for today. Thanks for reading.
