The big news, of course, this weekend is the announcement at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show that George Lucas has finally given the go ahead to release Star Wars on Blu-Ray. The bad news is that you’ll have to wait until September 2011 for the set.

In keeping fans up to date on the new MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, the official website now features more bios of the characters that will appear in the game. In the latest installment, we are introduced to Jewl’a Nightbringer, the bounty hunter, a new republic supreme chancellor named Janarus, and Darth Jadus, an imperial officer. The game itself has been in development for quite sometime and is scheduled for release in 2011, although no specific date has yet been announced.

You can also watch the E3 2010 trailer for the game here.

In a bit of fan fiction, an editor imagined what would have happened if there had been unforeseen consequences to the destruction of the Death Star. This one is NSFEF (Not Safe for Ewok Fans).

A family in Sandy, Utah, who lost their home to a fire just before the holiday was helped in an unusual way, by Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, and even Jedi. The 501st Legion’s regional chapter Alpine Garrison, a fan costume group for which the homeowners were members, came to put on a fundraiser where Star Wars fans could take pictures with their favorite legends and pal around with some really out of this world characters. We are glad to see that the Dark Lord of the Sith is not that bad after all. Kudos to the group for helping their friends.

And finally, for fans of Star Wars music, you may find this one interesting. The piano duo of Anderson and Roe perform four classical interpretations of the themes from the movies, including The Imperial March, the March of the Ewoks, the Cantina Song, and the Force Theme. And they play these each on their own piano, together making some galaxy class music. Here is their video of the Imperial March from Empire Strikes Back.
