This Week in Star Wars January 18 2011

We start this week with Seth Rogen, who plays the Green Hornet, claims that during a meeting he had with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, that Lucas believes that the world will indeed end in 2012. Being the futuristic visionary that he is, it seemed unlikely that the revelation was nothing more than humor, but after making his case, Rogen and Spielberg had no doubt that Lucas does in fact believe that the end of the world is at hand in 2012. Scary.

If you’ve often sat in your x-wing fighter wondering how to get to Dagobah to see Yoda or to complain about the Trade Federation and their taking over of your planet on Coruscant, you need a map. Fortunately, the guys at EW have felt your pain and created a super high resolution image that shows all the routes and how to get from place to place in the Star Wars universe. You can get the map by clicking here. No longer need a GPS, you won’t.

Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the regular trilogy, was in the news for two things. One was she became a spokeperson for Jenny Craig. Like Valerie Bertinelli and Kirstie Alley, she will do commercials that will chronicle her weight loss on TV and is said to already have lost 12 pounds on the program. And in other news, she had some very tough words for young celebrities often seen in the tabloids. She cautioned them to slow down on their antics and appreciate the opportunities they have, that very few will have.

Harrison Ford, who is 68, on the other hand, has another message. Enjoy the simpler things in life. Perhaps because he was a carpenter before he hit the big time, he enjoys household chores and working on art and crafts projects. His passion is cooking and he even enjoys cleaning up afterwards himself instead of leaving it to the maid.

If you are a big fan of the scene where Han and Greedo are talking in the Mos Eisley Cantina, then this might be for you. For $500, you can get a set of book ends that depict the scene in stunningly realistic detail. The poly-resin book ends are part of a very limited 3,500 run, so they will most likely become very collectible in the future and difficult to get for the initial price. Whether or not $500 is fair or not is up the beholder.

This week’s hilarious video is a recreation of the original battle sequence from the initial scene in Star Wars: A New Hope. However, in this one, we find out what happens when a storm trooper is injured, and not killed.
